The America’s Cup is a trophy awarded to the winner of a fiercely fought battle between two sailing yachts – one that currently holds the America’s cup and the second yacht, the challenger. The next event launched at OXO2 in November, with guests gathering at the South Bank venue for a presentation on what they can expect from the competition in 2015.
Ben Ainslie Racing (BAR) is the British challenger for the 35th America’s Cup, and have their home base in Portsmouth. Team Principal and four-time Olympic gold medallist, Sir Ben Ainslie said: “…we promise to provide an event experience like you have never seen before – come and cheer us on!”
BAR Chairman Sir Charles Dunstone outlined the commercial opportunities of the ACWS in Portsmouth, with the leader of Portsmouth Council, Cllr Donna Jones, showing guests why the race is a great fit for Portsmouth, with its esteemed maritime history.
Guests heard all about the plans for next year’s hotly anticipated race, from the ‘free-to-view’ areas in the Race Village where spectators can enjoy the atmosphere, to attractions, exhibitions and hospitality.
