Stars paid tribute to Lord Richard Attenborough at a gala held at impressive City venue Old Billingsgate on 11th June 2013.
Eight hundred guests honoured Lord Attenborough as they enjoyed a sumptuous three course meal by Create Food & Party Design, followed by a quiz and auction hosted by Stephen Fry. Honoured guests included Sir Michael and Lady Caine, with speeches and video link messages being provided by Lord Puttnam, Stephen Spielberg, Sir Ben Kingsley, Frank Lampard and former Prime Minister Sir John Major.
On the menu were starters of Smoked Salmon with Asparagus tips, Asparagus purée and Lemon Vinaigrette or Roasted Baby Aubergine and Boccocini Mozarella, followed by main courses of Pan Fried Guinea Fowl Stuffed With Sun Dried Tomatoes, Fresh Summer Herbs and English Mascarpone or Twice Baked Summer Squash And Basil Soufflé. An indulgent Chocolate Brownie Cheesecake was the perfect way to end the meal, with coffee and petit fours finishing off this feast.
The event, held by the National Film and Television School (NFTS), launched the brand new Lord Attenborough NFTS Charitable Fund, which aims to support talented young people in their ambitions of becoming filmmakers. During the event £350,000 was raised for this important cause.
Lord Attenborough is one of Britain’s greatest actors and directors, having acted in or directed over 70 films including the Oscar-winning Gandhi, Cry Freedom, Chaplin, Oh! What a Lovely War, A Bridge Too Far, Shadowlands, Brighton Rock, I’m Alright Jack, 10 Rillington Place and Jurassic Park.
