The 175th edition of the Grand National takes place at Aintree this weekend, but before that is an even more exciting race… the Concerto Group Mares' Standard Open NH Flat Race!
The race ties in with this year’s new Christmas venue, Aintree Racecourse. The winter season will see Hollywood themed parties take place in this legendary setting, for shared and exclusive events with a touch of glitz and glamour. In keeping with the Hollywood theme, tomorrow’s victor will receive their prize from none other than Marilyn Monroe herself (aka lookalike Laura Nixon).
It all kicks off at 17:25 on Friday 4th April. Concerto’s first ever horse race will be contested by 32 mares. Turning out in hopes of victory on this 3400m course are Roll on Ruby, Ebony Empress, Avispa, Diligent and many more.
If you’re thinking of placing a bet we’ve been told that the mildmay and hurdle course is good to soft-good in places, so make sure you pick a fierce contender used to such conditions!
The horses range from the tender age of four to a more mature six years old, but whether youth will triumph over experience remains to be seen. We’re quite inclined to Giveagirlachance though, maybe the clue’s in the name…
A sweepstake has of course already taken place at Concerto HQ. And now we wait.
Update: Our predictions proved entirely incorrect! The Concerto Group Mares' Standard Open NH Flat Race was in fact won by Avispa, with second place going to Lady Buttons and third to Tara Mist.
