Forty event mangers from a selection of the UK’s most prominent charities were invited to August’s Special Event Manager Forum, held at OXO2.
Guests included representatives from Cancer Research UK, Sparks, Mencap, Asthma UK, Arthritis Care, St John’s Ambulance, Action Aid, Macmillan, CLIC Sargent and The British Heart Foundation, to name but a few.
Guests were greeted with a welcome drink at 2pm, before taking part in three workshop sessions. The first focussed on sponsorship. The second session, on production, featured Concerto’s Simeon Aldred (Managing Direction of Fullcircle). A final session enabled guests to take part in an open discussion, delving further into issues brought up during the afternoon.
As the conference drew to a close guests began an evening reception, catered by Create Food & Party Design, who pulled out all the stops to create something truly exceptional. Entertainment came in the form of acoustic duo Danny and Matt, who created the perfect atmosphere as delegates sipped jasmine mojito cocktails and Champagne whilst tucking into a range of hot and cold canapés.
On the canapé menu was duck carpaccio on a cherry macaroon, salcombe bay crab with baby asparagus spears and new season’s goat’s cheese. These were accompanied by hot canapés of spring chicken and baby spinach ballontine and English beef snippets, amongst many others.
A seated dinner then began, where guests dined amongst stunning floristry by Hybrid. Guests were served roasted rack of lamb or pea and buffalo ricotta ravioli followed by the perfect summer dessert - lemon and elderflower posset with free form lemon sponge, whipped lemon curd, baked cherries and cherry and oat crumble crisps.
The event proved a huge success, with Rebecca Elcome, Head of Events at Sparks commenting: “Our sincere thanks to Concerto for hosting us for the first ever conference for the charity sector Special Events Managers Forum conference. As our inaugural event, it was so important for us to get it right, and thanks to the fantastic setting and the wonderful hospitality, we very much feel that we achieved this. OXO2 provided the perfect environment for our presentation, panel and workshop sessions during the day and was then beautifully transformed for dinner in the evening. The Special Event Manager Forum is headed up by Sophie Eaton of CLIC Sargent, and aims to share experiences and best practice amongst charity representatives.
